Apples Weed Eating Chickens

Here we are getting closer to being able to eat these beautiful things. This week it’s Apples Weed Eating Chickens plus a bit more. I am so grateful for this Red Delicious Apple tree. She blooms her head off and apparently the bees love it too. Because look at all these apples. These are much bigger then last years. I am sure that at least a batch of Apple Jelly and maybe even applesauce is in order. I was also thinking of doing some canning of Apple Pie filling.

Did you know that chickens love eating freshly pulled weeds?? Yes, they sure do. Sounds crazy right?? Well I think it is a combination of new bugs and fresh greens. Plus if weeds have seeds that is a bigger bonus. Wondering where the weeds came from?? Well…

I started at the chicken coop garden. Found nothing very exciting, thankfully. And then moved to the walkway. There were a few grass seed pods and a couple of other kinds of seed pods. So the girls went to town on all of this. From the coop I went over to the walkway. Dang it always looks so much bigger when it is clean. There was not much left this morning. Only two days later. I only gave the girls two pop up bags full. Holy cow though. The other three bags went on the burn pile. Why so much?? Well I went around the whole coop. Worked on the side where the new up coming duck house is going to go. Hopefully VERY soon.

Lastly, I apparently wore out Momma. She was exhausted from watching and getting pets. It sure was a nice weekend for working outside.
