    Week in review..7/15

Starting on Thurday Joe is on his long weekend. Yup, we are off for some shenanigans. But that was only after a class on Tuesday with the lovely Culver ladies. And just too much heat. uugghh a couple of days that were nice, then back at it. So, Gabby and I decided to watch some chick flicks. We even had a chocolate chip cookie or two. Ohhh and of course I had a coffee with my snack. Poor Joe was hoping to cut the grass, but this heat just wont let up enough. So else have we been doing?? Well, I have been working on stuff for the BOGO sale…

Did, I move to a Rainforest??

Some of the “grass” around the pond is now MUCH taller then I am… YIKES!! Dontcha, just wonder what lurks in there?? I know at times I sure do!! The furries, have been enjoying the nicer weather, because a week of A/C is more then they can handle. They miss all the noises from the birds and the breezes too. Even Penelope was out, (middle) checking what was going on.. With all the rain… some volunteers have showed up…. in the way of Flowers. Always in super weird places. The black eye susan is over by the steps down to the pond and this lily is not far from there……

This is my niece…Emmerson… I want to shout how proud I am of this girl!! She read me a whole Dr. Seuss story when I was out there this last week!! Sweetie, you are a great reader, both Uncle Joe and I loved listening to you read!! (Joe via video). Sooo, before I got hit a second time this year with poison oak… BOOO. I was able to locate SERVERAL of my flowers!! (top/bottom L-R) Last count 10 different colors of the lilies. Two different yellows, two different oranges, white, red(top r), rococo rose, red/white (top m), pink and pink/white. The next is an oak leaf hydrangea, white astilbe, red…

Rain, flowers, rain, weeds, rain and guests…

Grab a beverage…. this one could be long… It has been a full and crazy week as always on the homestead. Joe has been home all week, my parents came and all the rain!! First was plants, they are starting to pop up, fingers crossed all those seeds are happy too!! Even the hibiscus is blooming again! However, White Sox just does not care so long as he has the Sunshine on his belly! Kitties are funny… I was looking for him and the curtain was still closed, early yeah kinda, but the window was open all night. He was fine, and very comfy I guess. It is always busy…

    Chicks, seeds and Luna

The six baby chicks are out with the big girls… Just sooo dang cute!! White Crested Blue Polish is what they are called. I am almost positive that there are 2 roosters (maybe 3), which will go to the auction once I am sure which of the six. Earlier this weekend I could make out a new crow in the coop, we shall see! Before we know it, they will be adding beautiful eggs to the collection each day! Okay, funny story…. while pulling weeds, well, only the tall ones, this thought popped in my head.. all this ground is freshly turned. I have seeds….. hummmm, down to my seed…

    Crazy wildlife and a flower

Now, after seeing the perfect peony and getting the perfect picture… I CUT IT! Yup, that amazing peony was sitting on my kitchen counter for two whole days. It was joined by some old roses from Joe’s grandmother and a dark pink peony. The kitchen smelled AMAZING and made me smile each time I looked at it. BUT…. While running around in the house, this weird thing caught my attention. We live in sand so… we see it everywhere. But not there… you see in the first shot that is a very nice grass section. What the heck is messing up my grass?? Upon further inspection there were actually three.…

    Flowers and a deer

Last week it was just buds, this week… WOW! I found out that this is an Icelandic Poppy, the flowers are bigger then my hand, fingers open. The inside reminds me of our Blackberry Bliss color. Last count there were 13 buds/flowers. Several open at once. Beautiful! Late last week, I was putzing around the kitchen and something caught my eye. Looked again and then realized it was a deer. She apparently decided that was the spot for a rest. Right before dark, she was still there. Woke up early and she was gone… early enough that my pillow called me back to bed. Thankful she felt comfortable to relax…

I am so excited to share with you all that has been going on this week… New baby chicks… some more gardening … and a new do. The hubby decided that it was time to get rid of those sassafras trees… Moved a few decorations from the flower bed, he backed up the truck and… a couple tugs… BYE bye to unwanted trees Then baby peeps… they are so dang cute!! The auction is a dangerous place for me… Took the 5 unwanted Roosters…. came home with 7 babies. One was old enough to put outside… more on her next week. Did you turn up the volume? I was sure…

    Finally the garden

Happy Sunny Day! Started with making Sun Tea…. then….. Joe and I went to town Sunday morning to get a few things…. including seed potatoes, candy onions, yellow onions and red onions. Also a few flower seed packets. Ended up with 3 rows of potatoes, 2 rows of onions and a row of flowers. Joe found a few sprinklers he wanted to try… turned out they worked like a charm! The above is the “big” garden…. While shopping we grabbed a few Broccoli and Brussels sprouts too. I know, they are not for everyone, but someone has to try them …. haha Have you planted a garden? If you so,…

Do you get excited when you have guests at your house?? I know I sure do!! This past weekend Mom and Dad came for a weekend long visit. Mom and I got crafty, they both got to see what Coffee and Cards was all about AND we went adventuring with Joe. We ate and laughed and visited a few new places. Ohh so much fun in just three days. I am looking forward to their next visit in June, WoooHooo! Could not have a birthday with out cake… I decided oreo ice cream cake would be a winner!! Love you, Mom and Dad…. Thank you for visiting. For the birds…

Busy couple of days… Today however, started with Goose watch. These messy critters are not a favorite on the homestead. They quickly were evicted and hopefully found a new pond to reside. On a more fun note… spent most of the day in the craft room working on projects for OnStage. Still lots to do. Tomorrow is a New day!! Have a Great Day getting Crafty!!

    Tough 2 days

Gaelic went over the rainbow bridge Sunday morning. We really do not know what happened. My hubby took this amazing picture back in 2009 and that face… he was super handsome. Kinda funny part is that as a rescue cat you do not always know the story. Lucky for me and him…. I was his rescuer. Yup, this bundle of fluff and trouble. He never did lose those ears or the look right into your heart stare. He brought a lot of joy, happiness and laughs to may of you and to my family as well. He is missed and he is with his foster daddy Pauly, so he is…

    This beautiful lady

Joe and I decided to take a short trip to Illinois today. We were greeted by hugs and big smiles. Chatted pretty much all day, about nothing special. Spending time was the key. I was excited to tell mom (and dad) about all the cards and exciting stuff going on with Stampin’ Up! as well. An early dinner and more visiting. Remembering old houses and older neighbors. Then a drive back to Indiana. More adventures tomorrow.. Have a Great Day getting Crafty!!

    Finally sunshine

I know the picture is not the greatest, but the smoke was still coming out of the BBQ…. Joe, the hubby, is home and decided today was a good day to Cook… what?? Well, dinner was steaks and then he smoked a Pork Shoulder. Now, for those of you that do not know…. my mouth is watering just thinking about it… Joe is very good with that big monstrosity … he constructed it too and ohh he has made Bread, Pizza, smoked turkey for Christmas dinner, and the usual burgers, hot dogs, sausages, chicken and steaks. I even made an apple pie in cast iron, once. Yes we like food…

    A message from Dad

I get a message from my Dad who lives in Illinois that we have rain coming to fill the pond. I sent him this picture… the pond is already pretty full. The hubby did not get time to take the “fountain” out of the pond last year so this has been our “gauge” all winter… It went from seeing the Pipe holding the “funnel” to just the funnel and now… Just the top. Wonder how high it will get once the “April showers” get here. The ground around the lower areas surrounding the pond are already saturated. Last year the BIG willow you see in the top picture was completely…

    Lazy kitties

Poor Mooch has been feeling under the weather with an upper respiratory infection. Vet gave him a shot of antibiotics on Friday and we are still sleeping a lot. However, this shot stays on board for minimum of 10 days upwards of 14. I am sure he will be back to normal very soon….. These two however, just LAZY. Left is White Sox and on the right is Gaelic. This is the new cat tree that Joe had the Amazon truck bring a couple weeks ago. I think they are loving it!! you see the “holes” on the lower part of the picture?? that is a little house. Underneath that…

    Amazing Day

It started early, with coffee and waffles. Kitty snuggles are a great start to the day. Then, it was time to take a minute and do my nails. It has been just TOO long. Yes, I jinxed it .. Snowflakes and Purple sparkle wraps! PERFECT! After a little time in my craft room. I was lucky enough to get to go to my friend Becky’s house. Fun when I get to be the student at a class! Two great and fun cards. WoooHoooo. A trip to the grocery store for milk and creamer (misc items too). Back home to feed the four legged children and fix dinner. A night to…

    Stinker….

It has not been super exciting around here…. the crazy weather changes every couple day… with all this melting the poor hubby has had to dig trenches (almost) along the driveway. All the water has to have somewhere to go. Tonight, while working on cards for class, an unknown “perpetrator” decided the chicken that was left on the stove was theirs. I was thankful there was only a small amount left after piling it on my pesto pizza. Which was only about 5 inches from the chicken. Hummm, wonder who it could have been. Joe said it was probably aliens. stay tuned for further developments. Have a Great Day getting…

    Bulbs are out

Having an early appointment for the truck means you bring your work with you. It also means a chance to get your first Paczki of the year. No shocker that it also includes my favorite beverage! I did actually get some work done, not as much as I wanted because the oil change and all that only took 2 hours. Which is good, but I had planned for longer. Plus “working” where you used to work, lets just say there were several distractions. But distractions can be fun!! Here is what I am excited about though, the color is weird because of the plant light, but there are daffodil bulbs…

    A new chicken??

Yeah, I do NOT think so…. Just another crazy day on the Hamscher Homestead.. Apparently this Red Shoulder Hawk was so hungry she thought she could scare the chickens out… that did not happen. After all The cold and snow…. she would try anything. Cheater. Sent the photo to my dad and said maybe she thought she was in the fly thru lane…. of the chick-fil-a?? but it was closed. The kitties are all back to being toasty and warm…. no hiding under blankets and sitting by heaters. Penelope even decided to help me make some lunch. All the others were quietly sleeping!! We both went back to the craft…

    Organizing still underway

Everyone is talking about the organizing they are doing…. This craft room needs it too. The clutter is enough to drive anyone to crazy town, with a free pass. I am ashamed of how bad it has gotten. stuff was everywhere…. There was even stuff moved already. Total trash/recycle 3 bags. One trip to the thrift store and lots for the BOGO sale. As you can see the retired stamps have drastically went down…. Even Penelope (top left) and Gaelic (down on the scratchier) helped sort. Room to grow?? I have catalogs that go back pretty far, not going back to when I was a customer, but there are a…

    Snow and Cold

How is your weather where you are?? The girls are not happy about it. All this snow and not the right shoes to wear!! Thank you to the hubby for checking the heat lamps and having back up bulbs. Sorry for the messy look to the picture. I just cleaned the coop two weeks ago. They have been closed in for a day and that is all it takes. Even the birds have been making me work. I have had to fill the feeder twice, in two days. The poor things. So no worries here about feeding the outside critters. Ours are covered! These are great days to stay in…

    And snow

The snow that we received this weekend was not as plentiful as they had originally forecast. Sure is a great way to enjoy your morning coffee, right?? The hubby and I went for a walk Saturday while it was snowing… it was pretty amazing. I am thankful that he has plowed a path for our walks. This makes the “hike” much more pleasant. The second photo was one that I sent to my dad… he always sends me a text message to find out how much snow we have gotten.. I figure a photo is the best measure. haha. Had to lock the chickens in the coop overnight last night…

    Chickens??

I originally took the video for my nieces. They just love to hear them talking and are just a little too far to just stop by… 3 hours.  They ask my sister to have me send them stuff. Why is it that you can see the colors better with the snow as a backdrop?? I do love the brisk mornings…. Have a Great Day getting Crafty!!
