Joe has a new Tool, plus big plans for more work.
Joe has a new Tool I was happy to have a visitor at the Homestead. Christine and her Mom were able to stop on their way home from Shipshewana. We had a very nice, short visit and dinner. Joe outdid himself with smoked pork. So happy that they could stop. However more about Joe has a new Tool. Trust me lots have been going on. I will admit not by me. Wanna see what he got?? Here is the first of his new “toys”. With wanting to paint and clean up the house. This is a way to move faster and get it done. He has already cleaned up the…

Snow Water Chickens and More on the Homestead
Snow Water Chickens and More This week it is Snow Water Chickens and More, so much more, on the Homestead! Starting with the Snow of course. This photo was just the start. We ended up with about 6-8 inches. The wind was blowing stuff around so I am unsure the actual amount. However, now the temps are warmer and this is what I have… A whole bunch of water. Thankful that Joe can help directed it to where we want it to end up, the pond. Even the front had standing water. Small pond like water. Of course it helped warm up the ground enough to soak it all in.…

I know it it kinda tough to see how dark they are here. I will have to put them with a regular green so that you can really tell. More came today. Yes, it is exciting. Can you believe it, the newest chicks are two months old already. I know it is kinda tough to see all four of them. However, they were BUSY checking out the big pen area on Saturday. NO the…

Chicks a Bench and Gardening all in one week.
Chicks a Bench and Gardening Can you believe this weeks is about Chicks a Bench and Gardening. Of course I am going to start with the Chicks. You have not seen too much on them yet. These four little cuties are two Blue Sapphires and two Sillkies. They have had a fun adventure this week. How?? Well, they were getting too big for the little tub that I had them in. So, out to the coop they went. Now do not worry, they are separated from the Big Girls. As you can see they are safe. Joe has yet to remove the winter plywood. Which is a bonus at the…

Weeds Flowers Weeds and treasures on the homestead.
Weeds Flowers Weeds and treasures Starting not with Weeds Flowers Weeds and treasures. I wanted to start with this beauty. Here is my Rose of Sharon “bush”. Which is more like a tree, but still. You can see this this photo that there is still TONS of blooms still to come. I have a purple-ish one, however, I think I need to move it. It really is not happy where it is. With all the new trees in the Memorial Garden I think I will put all of those up on the Hill on the north side of the property. That hill needs a summer bloomer. It is where my…

Another weeding week and Visitors on the Homestead
Another weeding week and Visitors A little catch up and Another weeding week and Visitors. Remember I wanted to keep up with those pesky weeds. Well we had fun over on Facebook. I had them time me to see how long it would take to get this bed cleaned back out. After 45 minutes and then the 30 that I added prior this side was all cleaned out. Now moving on to the other side. So this one was a much quicker job. 30 minutes to tell you the truth. However, it was only a small section but all around where the newest flowers where planted. Dontcha love those Milkweeds.…

March Ding Dong Ditch Here are the first of two cards for the March Ding Dong Ditch. The class included Playing with Pattern DSP, Playing with Pattern ribbon and 10 sheets of cardstock. Each Ding Dong Ditch focuses on a bundle. When there are die cuts those are included. However, I can not stamp for you. You can easily add the bundle or even just the stamp set. There is a new bundle every month. The base price usually starts at about $15. This months was $18 but you got three spools of ribbon. DANG, right!! For March the bundle was actually two bundles. No I do not typically do…

Chicks and more babies, ohhh my goodness
Chicks and more babies Can you believe it the Chicks and more babies too. Holy Cow they have gotten soo big. They really need to move outside, but the crazy weather the last few days has me kinda nervous about it. I decided that they will have an adventure on Tuesday and then again on Friday. Friday could be for good. I know I can put the warmer out there, but… it really seems too soon. Plus they have been moving the screen around too. I know I know it is time. I am overprotective and I know it. That comes from loosing a few I guess. Yes, it is…

Chicks Kitties and Eggs to start the week…
Chicks Kitties and Eggs. Starting off the week with Chicks Kitties and Eggs. Ohh but there is always more… Right?? Joe was home the last part of the week, yeah. He decided that Mooch needed a new friend. This little cutie needed someone warm. Yes, they both feel asleep for over 3 hours. I did keep tabs on things, trust me. Snoopervisor and chick sitter, wonder what his next title will be. I am happy to report that both White Sox and Penelope have been sharing. Nicely too! The heated kitty bed. There are times that Penelope is NOT happy about it. However, she does not get nasty about it.…

Frozen trees and chickens on the Homestead
Frozen trees and chickens I am not sure about where you live, but Frozen trees and chickens is what this post is all about. Here at the Hamscher Homestead there is a layer of ice on EVERYTHING! And I really do mean everything, even the chicken coop, vehicles, the poor trees are struggling to hold their branches. Even the poor little birdies where struggling at first to stay on the perches. The storm happened on Friday, all day. These photos were from Saturday and the temp was 37. Holy cow, I see on broken branch I hope that the others do not snap. You can see the one in the…

Chicks, Chickens and Flowers. Just a peak at the new Chicks, Chickens and Flowers that are all fancy on the Homestead. Yes, they have hatched and what the big girls have to say about it. Starting off with the chicks from the first incubator hatch. These two have been outside for over two weeks now… ohhh, how the time flies!! I removed the divider on Saturday evening. There was chasing and pecking, but not to much. No clue as of yet, if they are hens or roosters. I promise to keep you posted! Here is the second incubator hatch… Just two again. These two are from white eggs. So Polish…

A very sick little kitty and they grow so fast
Happy he is home! I ended up taking White Sox to the emergency vet on Saturday night. Please someone explain why this happens on the weekends instead of during the week?? Anyway, due to a couple things on his blood work they decided to keep him for at least 12 hours. I just hate going home with no pet. The pets in the house freak out and get all depressed. And it has been about a year since the last time I came home empty handed. ugghh. Thankfully they checked his blood work again about noon on Sunday and it came back more normal. After doing a small cheer, I…

Kitties and Chicks
Thursday morning…. Joe is off to work and I can actually sleep in! The house should be relatively quiet, right?? Apparently NOT!! Mooch woke me up snoring in my ear. geezz, I know that I snore, but holy cow. I can not fix his snoring. Their feathers are coming in… Joe told me the other day… “So, Amazon dropped off their legs today?” It truly is amazing how quick these babies grow. As you can see from the top of this photo, the tail feathers are starting to come in. They are still very quiet. Except once… Joe and I were at the kitchen table and heard some loud chirps.…

Wanting to say hello…
The wanted to say hello… Here are the two baby chicks… it is kinda obvious… the extra large brown egg, is the chick out front. The medium white egg is the mop head in the back. Not sure what is what yet, I still have my fingers crossed that they are both hens. The little one was not sure what to think at first, but they was very curious to what I was doing… They are the quietest chicks I have had to date. Not much peeping, but I would imagine that will change in time. Hugs and Have a Great Day getting Crafty!!

Could it be, signs of Spring?
But first and update… For those that inquired and worried. The pen area for the chickens is once again secure. The smaller gauge wire is secured ever so fancy. Yes those orange zip ties, do the trick!! Even the kitties have enjoyed having the windows cracked open. Snuggling together and all. From left to right, White Sox and Mooch, Penelope and Gabby (sister), Mr Bigglesworth. Here are some interesting prints… the top possible Duck?? and the lower come of find out is a dog. Now to find fabric for the four matching chairs! I do NOT know what someone was thinking putting white fabric on kitchen chairs YIKES!! I sure did enjoy the sunny day Sunday. LuLu and I relaxed by the bbq while Joe was cooking. All of the chickens enjoyed being able to run around and take sand baths. Some even went foraging by the bird feeders for seeds. Here…

Houston, we have insulation AND drywall. WooooHooo!! Two full sheets left too…HUMMMM, where can I put that?? Mudding has started too! I will leave that for the next Post. The Chickens say… bring on the fall weather!! The girls sure have been much happier with the cooler temperatures. However, this Sassafras is a reminder of what is to come. They are the first to turn color here. Pretty against all the green, BUT!! This poor butterfly/moth was not “feeling” the cooler temperatures. Joe brought her in for a warm up and an orange snack. Lastly, I NEEDED to take advantage of the tools being out!! I can not wait to…

A new chicken on the Homestead??
Yeah, I do NOT think so…. Just another crazy day on the Hamscher Homestead.. Apparently this Red Shoulder Hawk was so hungry she thought she could scare the chickens out… that did not happen. After all The cold and snow…. she would try anything. Cheater. Sent the photo to my dad and said maybe she thought she was in the fly thru lane…. of the chick-fil-a?? but it was closed. The kitties are all back to being toasty and warm…. no hiding under blankets and sitting by heaters. Penelope even decided to help me make some lunch. All the others were quietly sleeping!! We both went back to the craft…
