Hamscher Homestead

Birds, frost and more birds

Darn bird decided to make a nest in the broken soffit above the nesting boxes of the chicken coop. There are now babies in this nest. I have not tired to take a picture, it has just been too cold. Sorry!

I am sooo bummed!!

My Magnolia was getting ready to POP open, but this darn frost… killed them all! Ohhh, I am soo bummed. The bush was just loaded with flower buds. However, there is always next year.

Here is another update on the Clematis, soo much more growth this last week! WoooooHooooo, at this point I am saying that we are safe! I took a chance moving this, and was a little worried too! Thank goodness the rain came.

I really tried to take a good picture, uugghh!

One last thing to share, I have had orioles at the bird feeding for three days straight!! What do you use?? Oranges or Grape Jelly? I knew that the grape juice was going somewhere!! I just did not see who was doing the drinking. Funny thing was that there was a small battle for territory the other day. Wonder what will happen with that??

Well, another week of quarantine down. How are you doing?? It sure feels like day 3,408,028 of this thing. We are in this together, so let’s inspire each other and encourage!

Are you with me??

Hugs and Have a Great Day getting Crafty!!

Sara did it again, how much sunshine can we share??

So sorry about the magnolia tree. This frost stuff needs to quit! (Be proud. I kept it clean)
Always enjoy your tales of feathers and blooms.

Nick and I have seen the Oriole’s also. Have those and several pairs of Cardinals. Don’t know about you but have you seen the resident 3 wild turkeys? They’ve been at our bird feeders twice a day for the past two weeks. Last year they had chicks behind our barn and I’m waiting to see if that happens again this year.

I have used grape jelly for years! I have the same group of Orioles come every year! I have 3 different sets. I just don’t have the trees they nest in… boohoo. But this year a set is nesting in a tree near the backyard! So I’ve been watching them courting this year!! Can’t wait to see the Bambinos!!! I have 2 hummingbirds too, but they stick with the hummingbird feeders. Sometime if I don’t have jelly in the feeder the Orioles will eat the hummingbird food.

Bummer about your magnolia my mom’s froze too. You’re right though, there’s always next year!!
